Manitoba Farmers Put Family First

Farmers Jake & Justin

Meet Jake – a second generation Manitoba chicken farmer. He and his wife Lorraine, along with their adult children and grandchildren, farm in southern Manitoba. They were gracious enough to invite our ‘Great Tastes’ crew into their home, and to show us what a day in the life of a farm family really looks like. It’s amazing that a group of people who work so closely together every day still manage to find time to have fun as a family. They toured us through their barns and treated us to a wonderful meal (Manitoba chicken, of course)! It was obvious that this gathering was not just for the cameras, and Jake’s daughter-in-law told us “we do this all the time”. Jake credits some technological advances for making it easier for farmers to detach from the barn, but still be able to monitor the wellbeing of their flock. Family is definitely the #1 priority for Jake & Lorraine, but they also put a lot of care and consideration into how they run their farm. Strong family bonds are the foundation on which this #MBFarm was built, and it is one of the values that all the Manitoba farmers we’ve met have in common.
