Turkey farmers in Manitoba have always worked co-operatively to bring their high quality product to market. Recently the oldest poultry co-op in Western Canada, Granny’s Co-operative, merged with Exceldor Co-operative in Eastern Canada. Barclay & Shelley are 3rd generation farmers and proud members of the co-op. They are raising turkeys along side Barclay’s parents, as well as their son and daughter-in-law, while watching the 5th generation grow up on the farm. Barclay & Shelley are not only passionate about farming, but they are also passionate about good food. Each year, these self-proclaimed foodies get the honour of judging the Red River College Polytechnic Iron Chef Turkey Cook-off. The competition allows some of Manitoba’s most promising culinary arts students to show off their skills using local turkey products. The results leave the judges with some tough decisions!
