We Produce Fertilizer

Every gardener knows that they need to feed plants to help them grow. Whether you’re growing a few tomatoes on your patio, or a commercial crop such as wheat or canola, soil nutrition, also known as fertilizer, is a major consideration. On a commercial scale, farmers can’t export food products from rural areas into cities without replacing nutrients in the soil or the plants will stop growing. Replenishing soil nutrients with either synthetic or organic fertilizer is essential to any food system. Livestock and crop farmers from across the province work together to ensure that soils remain healthy and nothing goes to waste. Whenever possible, manure, which is a byproduct of livestock production, is applied to nearby fields to provide high quality organic fertilizer. When organic fertilizer isn’t available, farmers and agronomists rely on locally available synthetic options. The application of both types of fertilizer are carefully managed to mitigate any negative impacts on watersheds, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
