Manitoba is not only the ideal place to grow crops and livestock, but it turns out it’s also a great place to produce farm equipment. Winnipeg is home to one of the world’s leading manufactures of harvesting equipment – MacDon Industries. Kiera & Geoff Young are from Carman, Manitoba. Geoff is a 4th generation grain farmer and Kiera is a professional engineer who has taken on the role of Senior Vice President of Customers, Products & Services for MacDon. She credits MacDon’s connection to and desire to help farmers with the company’s success. Harvesting crops is a nuanced and complicated task. Canola especially, is at high risk of food loss because the delicate seed pods have to dry before they can be harvested. Harvest too early, and the seeds will spoil in storage, but harvest too late and you risk shattering seed pods and loosing much of the product out in the field. MacDon’s flex draper headers are instrumental in helping farmers harvest their crops in a timely and safe manner.
