Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups cooked Great Northern beans
  • 1/4 – 1/2 lb bacon
  • 2 tsp (or 2 cloves) minced garlic
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup EACH ketchup, molasses and maple flavoured syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Method

  1. Place bacon, onions and garlic in bottom of 2 quart (2 L) casserole dish and add drained cooked beans.
  2. In medium bowl, stir together brown sugar, salt and dry mustard.
  3. Then add ketchup, molasses, syrup and water, and mix together.
  4. Pour over beans. Cover and bake at 300 ˚F (150 ˚C) for 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove cover for the last hour to allow beans to brown.
